GSM status
To view the GSM status, tap and select Instrument / GSM Status. The GSM status is available only when connected to a receiver that has an internal modem.
The GSM status is not available when the receiver's internal modem is connected to the internet.
The GSM status screen shows the status reported by the modem at the time you select GSM status, or when you tap Refresh.
If you set a PIN on the SIM card and the modem is in a locked state, you must key in the SIM PIN to be sent to the modem. The PIN is not stored, but the receiver remains unlocked with the correct PIN until you turn off the power and then turn it on again.
After three attempts to unlock the SIM card using an incorrect PIN, the SIM card is blocked, except for emergency calls. You are prompted to enter a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code. If you do not know the PUK for your modem, contact the supplier of the modem SIM card. After ten unsuccessful attempts to enter the PUK, the SIM card is invalidated and is no longer operable. When this occurs, you must replace the card.
Network operator shows the current network operator. The home network icon shows that the current network operator is the home network for the active SIM card. The roaming network icon
shows that the current network operator is not the home network.
Select network shows a list of network operators obtained from the mobile network after performing a scan for available networks. To populate the list, tap Scan.
When you tap Scan, the modem queries the mobile network for the list of network operators. Poor reception can result in fewer networks being returned by the network when the modem queries it for the list.
Some SIM cards are locked to specific networks. If you select a network operator that is forbidden by the host network, the system shows one of the following messages: Failed to select network operator or Network not allowed – emergency calls only.
Select Automatic to put the modem into 'automatic' network selection mode. The modem then searches for all network operators and tries to connect to the most appropriate network operator, which may or may not be the home network.
If you select any other network operator from Select network, the modem goes into 'manual' selection mode and tries to connect with the selected network operator.
If you select GSM status or tap Refresh while in 'manual' mode, the modem searches only for the last manually‑selected network operator.
For a list of network operators that you can connect to, contact your subscribed network operator.
Signal strength shows the GSM signal strength.
Firmware version shows the modem firmware version.
